Description:
The M74 extension project is the missing link between the end of
the M74 at Fullarton Road Junction near Carmyle and the M8 motorway
west of Kingston Bridge near Glasgow city centre. The junction
connecting the M74 with the M8 lies in the Clyde Waterfront
area.
The five mile (8 kilometre) motorway link comprises three lanes
in each direction and a hard shoulder on each side.
Starting near Carmyle in the south east, the motorway crosses
mainly brownfield and industrial sites in Cambuslang, Rutherglen,
Polmadie and Eglinton before linking with the M8 at Tradeston.
The vital link between the completed M74 and the M8 takes place,
just to the south of the river in the Tradeston area. The new
interchange involves the construction of eastbound and westbound
viaducts. Eastbound, a viaduct carries the link connecting the
eastbound carriageways of the M8 and M74 over the existing M8.
Westbound, a viaduct at Carnoustie Street carries the link
connecting the M8's westbound carriageways to those of the M74
Completion.
