Location:

Glasgow City Centre, Gorbals

Description:

The Marine Skills Centre, sited at Nautical College, is the first piece of building work for the New Campus Glasgow project.

Glasgow College of Nautical Studies already enjoys a high profile globally and attracts high numbers of international students. This early phase of work has created a world class £6.8 million teaching space on the Clyde Waterfront beside Albert Bridge.

It has created a new landmark on the banks of the river and provides state of the art facilities for maritime students. Its city centre location makes it unique among the few specialist maritime colleges in the UK, while the river setting gives students realistic and exciting learning experiences.

The building sits in an elevated position and appears to float above the river. It is approached by gangways - reflecting the nautical tradition - that at the same time improves security. There is a practice pontoon and an impressive free fall life boat built out from the banks where the existing teaching centre sits.
