Description:

Plans by Staybridge, part of the world's largest hotel group, to build a multi- million pound, 20 storey hotel in Jamaica Street at Central Station, have been abandoned.  In their place are proposals by Fortis Developments Ltd to convert the same disused office block into student accommodation.

The conversion will include the addition of a new rooftop level to provide 66 individual living spaces, alongside communal amenity spaces.  The building will be re-clad in red/brown brick insulated cladding.

In March 2013 building works began on the project.  As well as living spaces, the developer will be providing other facilities including a gym, laundrette, communal spaces and concierge services.

Current status:

Building works commenced.
