What makes Glasgow great?

27 May 2013

After a month-long conversation on the subject and more than 1,500 people contributing opinions from across the globe, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) are now a little closer to finding out the answer.

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB)  aim to replace the city's 'Glasgow: Scotland with Style' branding with help from the people who love the city. From Oman to Kazakhstan, Glasgow's many fans pitched in with their opinions using the website www.whatmakesglasgowgreat.co.uk. Homegrown Glaswegians and residents of the city were also able to contribute their views by scribbling their thoughts on special postcards placed in job centres, museums and other community hubs. The campaign reached over 400,000 social media users and attracted opinions from 42 countries. The public consultation on the rebrand has now closed, leaving GCMB to collate the information and decide on a relevant rebrand for our beloved Dear Green Place.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of GCMB, said: "The response to the conversation over the past four weeks has been incredible, with contributions coming in from every corner of the globe, and I would like to warmly thank all those who have taken part. We've been delighted with the strong variety of suggestions; with everything from poems and personal stories about Glasgow to people all over the world commenting on the city's many attributes, such as our warm and friendly welcome, cultural credentials, world-class universities and architectural heritage."
