Hospital in line for architectural prize

A £842 million flagship hospital that is due to replace the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow is in the running to win an international architectural prize.

 

A £842 million flagship hospital that is due to replace the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow is in the running to win an international architectural prize.
New South Glasgow Hospital, which comprises two NHS Scotland hospitals, has been shortlisted for the health section of the World Architecture Festival Award.
They recognise the best in architecture and design from around the world.
It includes a new 1109-bed adult hospital and a new 240-bed children's hospital together with a state-of-the-art laboratory which is already complete and using cutting edge technology to deliver a full range of diagnostic services for all of South Glasgow.
The build is already having an impact on the city skyline as it continues at a rapid rate.
Designed by Nightingale Associates and built by Brookfield Multiplex, the full hospital project is on track for completion on time and on budget in 2015.
The winners of the award will be announced at the World Architecture Festival in Singapore in October and the winners will automatically be a contender for Future Project of the Year.
