23 Feb 2012

Glasgow is to be the British Olympic Association's candidate city for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced that it is proceeding with a bid for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and that the city of Glasgow in Scotland will be its Candidate City. The BOA will now formally submit its intention to bid to the International Olympic Committee by 1 March 2012.

Over the forthcoming months the BOA will work together with officials from the city of Glasgow and the Scottish Government to further develop and progress the submission before the candidature file is delivered to the IOC in October 2012.

Reacting to the news, Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer for EventScotland said: "We are delighted that the BOA has taken the decision to support the Glasgow bid for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Scotland is the perfect stage for international sporting events and hosting the Youth Olympics would be a wonderful opportunity to extend the legacy of hosting the London 2012 Olympics and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. We will now work closely with partners to develop a strong bid that will give Glasgow, Scotland and the UK, the best possible chance of securing the Games."
