Funding for social enterprise

West Dunbartonshire Council has announced a £225k investment in social enterprise businesses, to help boost the local economy by creating sustainable jobs.

The Social Enterprise Challenge fund was announced by Council Leader Martin Rooney at West Dunbartonshire's first ever Social Enterprise Business event on Wednesday 14 November.

The new Social Enterprise Challenge will support and encourage the creation of social enterprises by providing funding of up to £15,000 to new social enterprises that have the ability to create sustainable local job opportunities. It will be formally launched in January 2013.

Applications for the Social Enterprise Challenge should be from local individuals or groups proposing to operate in West Dunbartonshire and should be able to show that they have:

  • A new business idea with clear a social benefit for the local area
  • The ability to create local job opportunities
  • A proposal which identifies clear outputs and impacts
  • The ability to define sustainability for the business
  • The drive and vision to take the idea forward
