Five-star rating for Riverside Museum

The Riverside Museum in Glasgow has won a five-star rating from tourism officials.

Glasgow's newest museum was given the prestigious award by VisitScotland after a visit by an undercover inspector.

The £74 million transport museum, which opened in June last year, now ranks alongside other popular Glasgow visitor attractions such as the Glasgow Science Centre and Kelvingrove Art Gallery

Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said that it was a huge show of confidence for both Glasgow and Scotland that successful leisure facilities are still being built, despite all the current economic challenges.

He added: "It shows a lot of work and attention on the part of the visitor attraction, especially as Riverside is so busy. I know everyone involved has worked very hard to achieve it so huge congratulations to them."

Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life, which runs the city's museums, said that after welcoming more than 1.5 million visitors already, the museum has firmly established itself as one of the most popular destinations in Scotland

He added: This five-star rating is further proof, if any was needed, of the exceptional quality of the building."
