The Fast and the Furious to film on the Clyde

01 Aug 2012

It has been confirmed that Glasgow has been chosen as a location for the filming of another major Hollywood movie.

The Fast and the Furious 6 will shoot in Glasgow's city centre between late August and early September.  About 250 people will be involved in shooting scenes at night for the latest in The Fast and the Furious series of films. Filming will take place on Cadogan Street and in the Broomielaw area, by the River Clyde and it said that local residents and businesses have already been consulted.

The decision to film in Glasgow was taken after representatives from the production met with Glasgow City Council's Glasgow Film Office a few months ago.

Several Hollywood movies were shot in Glasgow last year, boosting the city's economy by an estimated £20.15m. Other films shot in the city in the last year include: Cloud Atlas starring Halle Berry, Under the Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson and World War Z starring Brad Pitt.

Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson said: "It is great to see the city attracting another movie of this size so soon after our marvellous success in 2011.

"We look forward to seeing the Fast 6 shoots here and giving them a great Glasgow welcome."
