BAM appointed for Dumbarton Academy build

BAM Construction has been appointed to build the new Dumbarton Academy.

West Dunbartonshire Council has appointed BAM Construction for the £15.5m project which is scheduled to complete by summer 2013.

Designed by Keppie and engineers KJ Tait the 650 place secondary school will be built from blue and grey brick, metal cladding and glass the new look school will benefit from three floodlit sport pitches and a 100m running track.

Terry Lanagan, Executive Director of Educational Services, said, "The new Dumbarton Academy represents another significant step forward in the regeneration of West Dunbartonshire Council's schools estate. Everyone associated with the school is very excited about the designs. BAM has already delivered four new school buildings of the highest quality for West Dunbartonshire Council and I am confident that the new Dumbarton Academy will live up to that high standard."

The current unlisted Dumbarton Academy building will be demolished once the new build is completed. Brock Bowling Club has already been relocated to accommodate the new building.

The new school will have a landscaped access from Crosslet Road. The building will incorporate a theatre and library around three teaching wings.
