Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has officially unveiled a new £6.8m training centre for maritime students attending the City of Glasgow College.

The new facility includes a jetty, practice pontoon and free fall life boat.

The training centre provides state-of-the-art facilities, replacing outdated buildings with modern facilities for students training in the maritime industry. The Marine Skills Centre creates another landmark on the River Clyde, as part of Clyde Waterfront's 15 year scheme to revamp the banks of the river.

The centre represents the first stage in development for Scotland's newest and largest College campus, a result of the merger of Central College Glasgow, Glasgow Metropolitan College and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies. The new £6.8m campus will accommodate around 1200 staff and 40,000 students and is located across two sites in the city centre: City Campus at Cathedral Street and Riverside Campus at Thistle Street.
