Buchanan Street is top place to shop

Buchanan St leads the way in Scotland when it comes to shopping. It has now been identified as one of the most expensive places in the UK to rent retail accommodation, outside London.

Glasgow has cemented its reputation as one of the UK's top shopping destinations, after a new report yesterday pinpointed Buchanan Street as the second most expensive retail location outside London.

According to letting agents Cushman & Wakefield's Main Streets Across the World report, Buchanan Street has also jumped four places in the national rankings - from number 10 to number six in the UK. The UK's top five shopping locations, which comprise New Bond Street, Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Brompton Road and Regent Street, are all in London.

The report also noted that of the top 10 UK shopping streets, half of them recorded rental increases, but three saw falls in rental values over the year to June.

Buchanan Street commands rents of up to £250 per square foot, which is level against last year.

The street also shares its current sixth-place raking with prime shopping thoroughfares in Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham.
