Time to comment on New Campus Glasgow

17 Jun 2010

New Campus Glasgow, the visionary project to deliver an inspiring, flexible and sustainable estate for the new City of Glasgow College, has submitted its Proposal of Application Notice to Glasgow City Council and adjacent Community Councils.

The team behind New Campus Glasgow has now launched its formal pre-application public consultation programme which will give members of the public another opportunity to view exciting proposals for the City of Glasgow College's new estate, as well as give their opinions on the proposals. The project team has already developed strong and enthusiastic relationships with community groups and stakeholders by conducting an extensive engagement prior to this pre-planning stage.

New Campus Glasgow is holding two exhibition days in June and July for members of the public to view the designs for the new college's buildings and offer feedback. The events will be held at the Marine Skills Centre at Glasgow College of Nautical Studies' on Wednesday 30 June, and at Buchanan Galleries on Thursday 01 July. Key representatives of the project team will be on hand at both events to show people around the exhibition, and answer questions on the project. All feedback and comments gathered at the exhibition days will feed directly into the planning application for the project, due to be submitted in August 2010.

The New Campus Glasgow project will create high-quality, sustainable learning environments for the new City of Glasgow College, which will be formed through the merger of Glasgow's Central, Metropolitan and Nautical Colleges. The new college will be located across two campuses; the City campus at Cathedral Street and the Riverside campus at Thistle Street.

The college will be home to around 1,500 staff and 40,000 students and will become the heart of the city's envisaged learning quarter. It will be primarily funded by the Scottish Funding Council.
