HSBC to open flagship retail branch

20 May 2010

HSBC is to invest more than £2 million in a flagship retail branch in the heart of Glasgow city centre as the bank continues its growth in Scotland.

Located on the corner of Argyle Street and Buchanan Street, the three-storey building is scheduled to open at the end of 2010 and will create 18 new jobs.

It will offer the full range of banking services to new and existing retail and commercial banking customers, and will be the first high street bank to offer banking facilities on a Sunday.

The latest investment follows HSBC's move to its £1.3m Glasgow office premises in the city's financial services district to facilitate the bank's expansion in the west of Scotland.

The bank employs 3,000 in Scotland, most at the HSBC and First Direct UK call centres in Hamilton, with 800 at Edinburgh Park where the bank is currently recruiting another 70.

It launched a £20m drive north of the Border three years ago with new branches in Perth and Inverness.
