Billy Connolly sculpture for Anderston

29 Jun 2010

A sculpture of the 'Big Yin' has been commissioned for Glasgow homes development. Glasgow artist Andy Scott is to create the giant piece that will be suspended on a gable end at Sanctuary's Anderston development.

He is used to having his image on the big screen, but Scots actor Billy Connolly is to have his profile shown somewhere a little more unusual - on the side of a housing development.

Housing association Sanctuary has commissioned a sculpture of the star to be created by Glasgow-based artist Andy Scott.

The giant piece, which shows Connolly playing his famous banjo, will be suspended 40ft in the air.

It will feature Connolly's trademark flowing locks and pointed beard and be attached to the gable end of a new build block of flats in his hometown.

Glasgow is planning to give one of its most famous sons the Freedom of the City at a civic dinner on Friday, August 20.
