New Cafe Bar at The Hub

13 Jul 2009

Property developer, Downtown Space, has now opened the doors to the public to The Hub Café Bar - part of The Hub development for the creative industries at Pacific Quay, Glasgow.

The Café Bar will be open to the public and staff from other businesses in the area, as well as to the businesses based at The Hub. With panoramic views across the Clyde, the new venue will be a perfect destination whether just for a quick brunch or a relaxed dinner.

The Hub, which is a joint venture between Downtown Space and Helical Bar, is part of the city's new Digital Media Quarter, which is located at Pacific Quay, on the former Garden Festival site.

The Digital Media Quarter is also home to the new BBC and STV buildings, as well as the IMAX Cinema, Science Centre and Galaxy Radio. The Hub itself is already host to several exciting media and design firms, including Shed Media (makers of Footballers Wives and Waterloo Road). On one side, the Cafe Bar looks onto The Hub's central atrium, the Hubsquare, which will be used to host events, while on the other, it overlooks the newly redeveloped Clyde.

The Café Bar will be operated by Baxter Storey, which also operates a catering facility at the nearby BBC building. Baxter Storey will also be able to supply catering for any events held at The Hub, which can be booked for launches, corporate gatherings or exhibitions.

Ian Robertson, director of developer Downtown Space, said: "The opening of the new Hub Café Bar means that the building will become a destination in its own right, rather than simply space for businesses to be based. As well as being open to the staff who work at The Hub, the Café Bar is also open to the public and provides a fantastic backdrop for socialising, whether for a business lunch, a morning coffee or a relaxing drink at the end of a long week.

"The Café Bar has the added bonus of a waterfront setting - something you don't readily find in the city centre, where, if you sit outside, you tend to be next to a main road. The area around the banks of the Clyde at Pacific Quay is really beginning to come alive after decades of neglect and the opening of the Café Bar will help to achieve this.

"Over the coming months, we will be developing our events calendar for The Hub, and having the Café Bar open will help us create an exciting and vibrant series of events that will put The Hub on the map. Baxter Storey is a quality and established cafe bar operator and we are delighted to be in a position to now open the doors to our new venue. The whole ethos of the building is about meeting up, exchanging ideas, socialising and collaborating, and as the names suggests, The Hub Café Bar will be at the centre of this."

The Hub Cafe Bar will be open Mondays to Fridays, 8am - 5pm, and will be open during the forthcoming Glasgow River Festival.
