River Clyde to star in Homecoming drama

19 Jun 2008

Plans announced by Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth will include a play based on the history and heritage of the River Clyde.

Entitled 'The Beautiful Journey' the drama will be produced and staged by the Glasgow-based UZ Events, the company that has developed and produced the highly acclaimed Glasgow's Hogmanay and the Glasgow Art Fair.

Details of the production are still being developed but it is scheduled to run from 15-31 October 2009.

The programme of events for the Bard's year-long anniversary celebrations entitled Homecoming Scotland 2009 was unveiled at Edinburgh Castle on Monday 16 June.

More than 100 events are planned across the country and are based on five themes involving Burns, whisky, golf, great Scottish minds and innovations, and culture and heritage.

Details of the programme can be found at www.homecomingscotland.com.
