New 99 bed hotel for Braehead Renfrewshire

19 Mar 2007

Ardmuir Developments, the Aberdeen-based commercial property investment company, is moving into the hotel market with the opening of a new 99 bedroom Travelodge hotel at Braehead in Renfrewshire.

The new hotel will be managed by and branded as a Travelodge, the UK's fastest-growing hotel business which first opened in Britain in 1985.   The Travelodge, which will create 25 new jobs, will be located adjacent to the £71m Xscape development and the new £7m Riverside Braehead business park. The Travelodge will also serve Glasgow International Airport, and has direct access on to the M8.

Travelodge Braehead will have 99 rooms, a bar café and just over 100 car parking spaces.   Room rates will start from £26 per night and 25 jobs will be created when the hotel opens in early 2008.  This will be the 4th Travelodge in Glasgow, the 23rd Travelodge in Scotland and will take the company's employment in Scotland to 375.

Mads Gisselbaek, Director of Ardmuir Developments, said: "We have been looking to move into the hotel sector and after extensive research Braehead emerged as an excellent location for development. It is already a major destination, and set for further rapid growth with new housing, business and leisure facilities being built.  We are delighted to be partnered on this development by such a strong brand as Travelodge, offering quality accommodation at great rates."

Tony O'Brien, Travelodge's Development Director said: "We are very excited about Braehead Travelodge, which will play an important role in ensuring we achieve our growth plan of opening 3,000 rooms in 2007 and a further 3,000 per year until 2010".

Rosemary Coles, Group Development Manager with Capital Shopping Centres added: "We are delighted that Ardmuir Developments is developing a new Travelodge at Braehead.  This latest investment further enhances Braehead's reputation for attracting high quality businesses to Renfrewshire."

Travelodge Braehead will be the second hotel planned for the rapidly growing Braehead regeneration area, which comprises business, leisure and residential development, and the Braehead Shopping Centre.  Construction has started on Scotland's first Sleep Inn, a £6m 90 bed hotel adjacent to Ikea, which will open in the summer.   Around £500m has already been invested in Braehead by the private sector and some 4300 people are currently employed on site.
