A presentation from an organisation such as Scottish Natural
Heritage could be the stimulus for this project. Young people will
research the biodiversity/habitat networks along the waterfront.
The lessons will also develop knowledge of local arts and community
projects (such as Gorbals Art Project) and increase awareness of
how these initiatives can be made accessible through use of parks,
open air exhibitions etc. Young people will research the economic
benefits of promoting local green space and gain an increased
awareness of the transport facilities to access these places.
Strathclyde Police may be involved in order to promote safety in
local green spaces. Ultimately, groups will design a web page aimed
at increasing awareness of all of the above aspects of the Clyde's
green network.
Broad Outcomes of learning
• Subject knowledge enhanced and gained: natural
habitats/biodiversity along the waterfront. Additionally, how these
spaces can be used to promote leisure and arts projects and boost
the local economy by attracting visitors
• Enterprising skills improved by: developing creativity,
independent thought, confidence in decision making, responsibility
and sense of citizenship within local community
• Developed employability skills: design, planning, research,
organisation, communication and decision making
• Confidence of working independently from teacher-led decisions
demonstrated by taking on specific roles and managing
time/resources effectively
• Pupils take responsibility for their own learning through making
decisions about: design, content, format and visual aspects of the
web page
• Learners have developed the 4 capacities of CFE
Relevance to curriculum
• Supports CfE Social Studies
