Design a Green Space

This project will develop students' k/u of design processes by using Clyde architecture as a starting point to create a unique 'green space' to win the chance to participate in a presentation to a Clyde developer/local authority personnel/local community and an exhibition at parents' evening. Learners will learn teamwork, planning and construction skills by working in teams to create green spaces that would be open to the public and child friendly and compliments the surrounding architecture. Learners will apply this knowledge in a real life context by considering the impact of development plans on the local community.

Broad Outcomes of learning
• Subject knowledge gained and enhanced e.g. The design process, working to the constraints of the design brief (responsibility to meeting needs of others), construction skills
• Develop enterprise and employability skills: application of knowledge in a real situation by being able to follow a brief, working in collaboration with others and by discussing the pros & con's of final outcome with whole class
• Learners have developed enterprising skills identified as 4 capacities of CfE
Relevance to curriculum
• Supports CfE Art & Design studies, students will work with the visual elements: line, shape, texture, form and colour
• Relevance of how community green spaces are relevant to work and life and how this subject knowledge is put into practice in a real situation e.g. designers, landscape gardeners/architects competing for bids
