New Scots

The learners will be taught about immigration to the areas surrounding the River Clyde. They will do research on the topic then plan an event which allows them to exhibit what they have learned.
This is a good extension project if the topic has already been touched upon during existing curricular work.

Broad Outcomes of learning

• Citizenship knowledge improved and enhanced through gaining an understanding of the community which surrounds us
• Employability skills developed as learners will communicate, plan, organise, research, present, cooperate and contribute
• Confidence of working independently from teacher-led lessons demonstrated by researching topic and deciding on the event content
• Pupils take responsibility for their learning through making decisions about what roles each learner will take and what the content of the event will be
• Learners have developed enterprising skills identified as 4 capacities of CfE

Relevance to curriculum

• Very relevant to social education/citizenship as learners will gain a clear understanding of the diversity of their community
• Core skills enhanced and improved through research
• Soft skills enhanced as learners learn to work together as they organise and stage the event
